The following is an e-mail I received from the American Red Cross this morning:

Tonight, a disaster struck the capital of Haiti and surrounding areas where 2 million people live. We’ve been in touch with Red Cross staff on the ground, who report collapsing buildings and aftershocks that have forced terrified people into the streets. The people of Haiti need our help.

We’ve immediately pledged an initial $200,000 from our International Response Fund to provide food, water and other relief to people impacted by this earthquake, knowing the first 48 hours are absolutely critical to save lives.

Please make a donation now to the International Response Fund to help victims of countless crises like the earthquake in Haiti. Your gift will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need.

We must be prepared to take further action as local responders assess the situation. Red Cross volunteers will work throughout the night to reach survivors trapped in their homes. And based on the needs they find, the American Red Cross will provide additional support, including relief supplies from our global warehouses.

Posting places. What else can we do? Ideas?

It really saddens me. Here in Cali, we have had a couple small quakes this past week, but nothing of this magnitude.

I'm sure they may need blood donors as well, right?

I'll check it off. If they do, then personally I'll postpone donating for this. This would be a better cause to me.

I just got off the phone with the Red Cross. Slightly early to tell, so anyone should call their local place to see what's going on.

Trying to figure out how to incorporate...

I am Helping a lady here raise money for her family (who Thank Goodness are alive and well) This way I know that I am not being Scamed out of my cash by some fake red cross guy who is pocketing other people's cash for his own use. Shame on the guys who do this kind of scam and sham. She is getting all the help she needs here from the people of Iqaluit and Has my number if she needs help with the fundraising ideas or collecting donations of food and clothes for her family who lives out there Just becarful where you're sending ythe donations whether it be cash or food and clothes there are Con artists who take advantage of theese disasters to get rich quick. At least ten websites to my knowlage have been shut down or reported so if you think that you are being scammed report the site and have it investigated
