Sentry is sort of the new more popular version
But Hyperion's been around since like the 70s

Sentry was a joke, gone real character. he's not even the second one marvel has. technically, there are too many "SuperMen" to count. think about it, DC has the Marvel Family as well as the Black Adam Family. than you have the Kree Captain Marvel in Marvel. various StarMen, DCs own member of the Legion once had most of Supes powers. UltraBoy is another. M'onel? Mon-El? oh the hell with it! Lar Gand is another.

Yeah most people don't like Sentry. I'm not a big comic guy, and I didn't really like his comics either, but what he represents is pretty familiar to me. I'd think most people could relate to the idea of wanting so badly to be a good guy, and having to grapple with the darker side of your personality to achieve that.

no... I meant that he was a joke cooked up by Marvel and Wizard. if I'm wrong, SH will step in and catch my slip

*I think I'm right tho, have a huge stack of wizards..... including the one with the Spider-Man teaser poster. you know, the one that was painted? the one depicting Leo DiCaprio as the Web-Head?

You're not wrong this is taken from the wikipedia article
Hoax
Marvel promoted The Sentry limited series as the first appearance of an unknown Stan Lee Silver Age hero; Lee agreed to pretend that he had created the character and forgotten about it. Comic book magazine Wizard: The Guide to Comics participated in the hoax, reporting that Marvel had discovered sketches by a forgotten artist named "Artie Rosen" (a reference to letterers Artie Simek and Sam Rosen) of a superhero created by Stan Lee that pre-dated the Fantastic Four
