Can anyone suggest some good goggles or tell me about your experiences with them? I'm thinking about incorporating them into my design.

if you think you will be facing something like mace goggles will help, also good to avoid the old dirt in your eye trick.

the only thing the worries me about wearing goggles is if someone hit in the eye area hard enough the goggles break and the lens or some other part would scratch my eye or get stuck in my eye

Oakley, 5.11 tactical, and Blackhawk Tactical all make good goggles for this kind of stuff, and they all have ballistic protection. They also make really good gloves.
