Another observation about slings is that the braiding makes them elastic, which greatly improves the energy transfer during both windup and release.

on payday I'm picking up some black and green cord. this looks like one of those things that not only can be fun but can also be a worthwhile endevor. something a little deeper than just making a weapon.
making a tool.

In my ham radio days slinging a spool of fishing line over a tree limb was a good first step to erecting a temporary airial dipole.

Hey Simon,

Great idea, I never thought about using pepper ball clusters in a sling, but it could work.

Hey Thantos,

yer great call chap, if you want to make the platting a bit simpler on your first one, it is really cool to get three colours as it allow you to keep an eye on whats going where. It took me quite some time to learn the platting, and even now I find platting with just black paracord quite tricky.

Hey Thantos,

Colour wise I can't help you, however, It only needs to be a temporary thing, just whilst you make your first few, after that you will be able to make them out of solid colours, but it did take me a while to get the knack, These are my two favourite instruction sets:

Anyway best of luck chap, let us know how you do.

PS there is a great dedicated Wiki on the subject, which really helps you when you are learning how to use one, Not quite as easy as the Elastic powered more modern versions:
