| The movie was brilliant. I actually believe most of the things they mention in that movie. But I digress... Look at this thing: http://www.pdws.biz/Self_Defense_Weapon_Defender_1.htmlIt seems like it could be a very useful gadget for a RLSH, but my immediate concern is the legality of it. In the FAQ all he says is "Look it up and take responsibility" Easier said than done, it seems. How would one even begin to do research to see if something like this is legal or illegal? _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. | Wow, I had totally thought this thing was a joke from that movie. I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me this has to be legal to carry almost anywhere. It's a flat and relatively small piece of metal [edit: plastic, rather] without any blades or spikes on it. It's not brass knuckles, obviously.
The question is whether it would have any practical use for you, I guess.

| It basically just gives you control over any CQC situation. You hold an ear or limb and press the points or serrated edge against soft flesh like that of an ear or nose or finger webbing or neck and the attacker will be forced to cooperate. The hold can be used to slip their finger through and get then in a joint lock, it would seem. I think I might order one just to see. It is only a piece of plastic. _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

| Well... I saw the scene in the movie. But I don't understand how it stops them from doing something like kicking you, breaking your arm, etc etc. Jiu Jitsu classes might be a better investment... but if it turns out to work really well, please do post about it. |

| I dooooon't know, guys. (Continued skepticism here) It's tempting to believe in this thing. And I'm amazed it's real. But. The demonstrations in that video suspiciously remind me of Paladin Press self defense books type things, like "Okay, place your hand here in this unrealistically vulnerable position you would never actually do in real life. Good. Okay, then I would do this... CRA-KOW! See, the technique is unbeatable!" But then again, maybe. But then again watch the video and imagine the guy is using a big plastic comb instead. The only thing that wouldn't be about the same (IMO) is the part with snaring a finger in that hole. But then again, maybe. But then again I have this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2850678 |

| I've got the Swan, it's not bad, takes some practice, as all things do. _________________ "You must either conquer and rule or serve and lose, suffer or triumph, be the anvil or the hammer." -Goethe

| I was thinking about getting the Spec Ops 1 or 2 since they look sort of like bear claws, but they also seem to have less practical uses. You know, all you need is a table saw, drill a sheet of 1/4 in thick plastic and some sand paper to design your own. I might just design my own in the shape of a bear paw... we'll see. _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

| Alright so I got bored/inspired today and tried my hand at designing a special bear-themed version of the "Predator." Of course I could only design it based on what uses I've learned so far, and since I don't own the DVD yet, I'm sure I could design something far more efficient in the future. Let me know what you think: _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

| I'm not 100% sure exactly what this is, but it seems like a good idea. |

| If it also functions as something innocuous then it would be even better. That design above could be adapted as a faceplate that fits over a mask or a chest symbol. _________________ "Wearing spandex is not an instant qualifier to stay at my place." - Z

| I carry it primarily when I have to enter a venue where I cannot bring a metallic weapon. It provides more options than most non-metallic weapons do, as they are primarily a non-lethal tool. _________________ "You must either conquer and rule or serve and lose, suffer or triumph, be the anvil or the hammer." -Goethe
