PostSubject: The Mandolin   Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:42 am

G'day everyone,
First thing is first - I do not consider myself a "hero" or "super hero" or what not, and even if I did go out and do a lot of good deeds, I'm not sure I would even call myself one then.
I am mainly here to observe and learn about this community, as I find it quite interesting - as well as contribute in anyway I can.

However, that does bring me to the question of whether or not I have done anything that would deem me to be of similar rank to many of you, in the sense that the philosophy of what you do carries over to me. I haven't done a lot, but sometime last year when bush walking with a friend we found a dehydrated longneck turtle, far away from any source of water. The night before it had stormed, and it must of gone for a walk, only to find itself stranded in a large football field (Outside of the bush - we popped out in a suburb). Unable to get the poor dude back to water, we made a few calls and found we had to travel a far few suburbs away and drop him off at a Vet. Using water, a cardboard box, a trolly, and a skid row shirt, we took the guy via feet and train. It was a lot of fun, and it was rewarding to know we had saved the little dude's life. I don't know how trivial this sounds to a lot of you, and I'm not saying it was some epic heroic deed, but judging by some of you here, I can see how this could perhaps fall into the mindset and philosophy of RLSH? Or maybe I've missed the point completely.

Never the less, it's a pleasure to be here on this forum and I hope to have some great chats with you all!

Welcome! It's great to see some honesty and humility in an introduction.

In all honesty, there aren't many here who WOULD call themselves a hero! It's a moniker that started small and has just kind of stuck. I think you're doing just fine; it's about doing the right thing and not the easy thing. Making every move you can to make your piece of the world better than it would otherwise have been.

Every victory counts, no matter how small. I think you'll get on just fine... Smile

Welcom the the community my friend. Now let me say that no good deed is trivial no matter how great or small. I say the you did a great thing for if not for you that poor animal would have died the fact is nothing the we do in this world is trivial.

Warm welcome to our forum, Mandolin. No good deed is trivial in a world that has trivialized doing good deeds. These days it seems people turn their backs on others and worry more about themselves then bother going out of their way to help another. So it is always refreshing to see someone step up and do the right thing.

It's not about what we're called, it's about what you are inside. Everybody has a hero inside of them.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! There's a large amount of bushland around where I live, so I've thought about mainly looking out for little dudes in trouble around there, as opposed to taking to any sort of street patrols or what not, especially considering how out of shape I am at the moment =P.

No sir. Although I have been aware of you for some time, essentially via browsing the forums whilst waiting for my account to be activated, and also, funnily enough, through a downloadable costume for "The Movies" game, which was of you.

Mandolin, from one newcomer to the next, welcome to the site.

I hope that both of our time within this community will prove fruitful and useful. It will be interesting to see how we both progress and growth alongside each other, as we both joined at relatively the same time.
