(CNN) -- Police arrested a man Sunday in Escondido, California, in connection with the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl, according to the San Diego County sheriff.

Specific charges have not yet been filed against John Albert Gardner III, a 30-year-old registered sex offender, but Sheriff William Gore said at a news conference that physical evidence links Gardner to Chelsea King. He declined to elaborate.

King has been missing since Thursday when she failed to return home from an after-school run, according to CNN affiliate KGTV.

Gore said the investigation is ongoing.

"Our primary goal has been to find Chelsea King," he said. "We are continuing those efforts."

He added that authorities are holding out hope King will be found alive.

I just saw on the news that the body of Chelsea King has been found. Words cannot express my sorrow and my prayers go out to her family and friends.

The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity.

This does not mean we should not hunt down those who do evil. We always should. It just means that while her death was unexpected, sudden, and violent, she is now at peace. We can at least be happy for that. Now for that bastard to get his justice.

I so much hate to hear that this ended this way. It makes me so angry that sickos like this guy are let out into the general populace. To me they cannot be rehabilitated and cannot make any sort of decent mark on the world. This happens so many times that I wonder how long will it have to go on before lawmakers realize that people like this need to be caged for the rest of their lives?

I feel so bad for this poor girls family and friends. I can only imagine the heartache and anger they feel right now.

my bad..... new monitor. and stuff like this makes me kinda mad. I've witnessed accidents bad enough, harm like this when done with intent and malice..... I kinda lose focus when I think of such things.
