"Nunchuks skills" is a Napoleon Dynamite reference. They're probably illegal to walk around with in the states, too. Plus I don't think they'd be that great for crimefighting, anyway.

Nunchucks would be fairly decent for crimefighting if you know what you're doing... that is, if they weren't illegal in most places. They can be used for hitting similarly to a baton, but also for disarming. And because of centrifugal force, the actual damage they do is on par with many other self defense weapons you could carry. They're pretty underestimated, all in all.
