Greetings Brothers and Sisters, 9 here.

In order to not bury the point, I'll dive right in.

Over the last few weeks, after a run-in with multiple assailants (and three broken ribs later) I started thinking about crowd control. I thought about the pepper spray grenades on discussion here as well, but decided to stay away from those as my envisioned helmet will offer me no protection from the fall out as well. This lead me down other trains of thought.

Ok, only one, stun grenades. For now, I was thinking a combination of a flash powder core (for the boom and flash!), surrounded by the hardest airsoft pellets you can get.

For now, it is mostly an idea that is swimming through my head, though I have taken some strides towards manufacturing a prototype. What stopped me recently was the attempted car bombing in New York. Making any class of explosive right now is not such a grand idea...

So, Brothers and Sisters, any ideas, criticism, or input?

well what is protecting you from the fallout of the flash/bang?

Anyone hope for an electric one? There are some products out there which are essentially "electrified nets" which taze ( tase? ) their targets. As if the horror of a net being wrapped around you wasn't enough to send you running, the fact that it jolts you with ( non-lethal ) electricity afterwards is icing.

A big enough net can serve the same function as a grenade, and can be pretty well controlled. There are also "taser bullets" http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2007/07/taser-goes-wire/ coming out, which could be evolved into taser grenades... like they say in the article it turns friendly fire into apologies, instead of burial.

A taser net would be a wet dream...non-lethal, effective and would give a perp a nice lesson to think about next time he/she decides to pull off a job.

I think a stun-net isn't too ridiculous. It'd be like attaching a portable power source to an electric fence... and then throwing it at someone...

Actually, a tazenet is a very real possibility, you guys may have given me a new idea to tinker with. I had been kicking around the idea of a netgun, though figured its single use capabilities would limit it's use in the field. Having a variety of net loads would make it abit more likely to wind up in a normal loadout.

Ok, scratch the stun grenades, the major issue I keep running into is the detonation device. I considered a timer, but that is iffy in and of itself (a bit too slow on the throw and you know have a few less fingers, not to mention probably deaf too) or some kind of impact detonator. Which is a whole other bunch of BS. If a jolt is needed to set it off, I'm not entirely sure I'd want a whole slew strapped to my back...

So, on to the tazenet! IC has some ideas, as do I, and I hope we can collaborateon them in the next few days/weeks.
