| Kicking around some ideas. This is one I know I can build with my current skills and resources. I'd like to know what you all think.
Bracer (covers forearm from just behind the wrist to about two inches from the elbow)
Layers (closest to skin outward) Pig Skin High-Density Foam Padding Light Leather Medium Leather
Tech 130db Personal Emergency Alarm Garmin Touch Screen GPS (Located on the inside of the arm with polycarbonate protective snap cover) Maglite (can be lit while attached to the bracer or detached for independant use)
The medium leather is molded around the tech but the Garmin is removable for battery replacement.
Interesting?

| sam fisher had a palm pilot set up like that. if it'sgood enough for a splinter cell,it's good enough for you. I've been meaning to do the same thing with my android phone. |

| Sounds pretty cool. How does the "130db Personal Emergency Alarm" fit in?
Is it this: http://www.pepper-spray-store.com/products/flashing-personal-alarm.shtml

| Pad the GPS with some heavy foam to reduce the g-shock from impacts. |

| Mega, Yes, that's basically the alarm I had in mind without the light. Sort of a last ditch defense to attract as much attention as possible.
Vic, The GPS unit i had in mind is impact resistent and waterproof. I'll also be padding it up and surrounding it with polycarb. Also leather is actually great for protection.

| Something like that. Though i was shooting for something a bit more compact. Though, to be honest I am now torn between building the bracer or a utility belt. Leaning toward the utility belt because it's a classic and there was a really good thread here on that subject. Gadgetastic! |

| I doubt regular people can buy that or that it's the best value for them. It looks marketed at the military, somewhat expensive, and (alas) outdated tech-wise before you even get it in the mail. A cell phone can do most of that stuff, probably... What this web site kinda reminds me of is the web site where you can buy jetpacks... for an unspecified large price and after proving you're a trained jetpack operator... however you do that. But definitely a computer on my wrist would feel cool. Maybe a velcro wristband and an Iphone with velcro on the back...? |

| no iphones are evil. if you are going to get a touchscreen smart phone, get an android one. they have one for every major provider, you don't have to limit yourself to just one kind of phone. there's options. |

| DAMN! The refubished Garmin I had my eye on has sold! Arggggh!
Though maybe that's a good thing since it seems as if phones can do pretty much everything a Garmin can do and more. So now I'm thinking maybe a place for a phone rather than a built in GPS.
