K, so I know that a) most of you have probably already discovered this with your smartphones and b) the battery life can use some work- at least, if you're CONTSNATLY texting and listening to music..

But, I have discovered that an appropriately used HTC hero is an AMAZING patrol aid...

I have GPS, a voice recorder, 5 megapixel video and photo... and with my favourites tool right on the desktop, I am one button away from any of CrimeStoppers' local most wanted, the RCMP's wanted list for my area and the High Risk Offenders registry for my area....

I'm in love/hate relationship with my Samsung moment... except for the fact that the sex offender location app knocks off some times and registers me in Finland.

what are the name of some of these apps you have? I only have a police scanner on my G1. and that only picks up the sheriffs department around here.

Yeah, the police scanners on android need work, but the others are great.

voice, video and sound are built-ins.

The rest are simple bookmarks that sit directly on my phone's desktop.

Gives me pics, profiles, etc of the perps in each of those databases. I have been using these sites at work (I run security for an office tower in my city), and when I upgraded to my hero, I was able to put my bookmarks straight on the desktop, so I can access them with very little effort during patrols.

Android's great, too, because I can have multiple "scenes"- which are collections of pages, like profiles... so I can have all of my civvie apps on one "scene' and all of my hero apps on another..
with me, I can get away with having all of the same apps on my civvie profile because with my job, it makes sense that I would have easy access to investigation tools.

understandable, I did pick up a sexual predator app. which revealed some most disturbing information indeed. who knew there was a child molester convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14 living right next to the park I take my daughter to every week.

Ignorance is not bliss, and in this case could lead to a tragedy. You can't stop the evils you don't know exist. In Urban's case, he now knows that there is a predator about, and I can all but guarantee he's looking for others now too. Forewarned is forearmed, right?

My phone just makes calls and sends texts, and even that much it tends to be very temperamental about. Oh and if I use a white screensaver it kinda works as a flashlight. But that's about it.
