Does anyone know what's up with Augmented Reality (AR) heads up displays?

As far as I remember people were working on them at least as far back as 10 years ago. Probably 15-20. What that is is like when you look through the display there's an overlay on reality that would have different applications to help you. For instance if you were using an app for directions you would see arrows or a colored overlay on the road.

I remember reading they were working on the registration problem (lining up real reality with AR using GPS data).

But now it's like nobody's really talking about it anymore.

Awesome... kinda. I'm afraid "soon" might mean when I'm 65 at this rate.
