I was just wondering, I searched through the forums found that some of you carry guns. How?!

Holsters mostly, I'm sure.

Minuteman FTW with only one post. Seriously though, it's a fundamental constitutional right. I live in a state where anyone, as long as they are not a felon, under a DV restraining order, or a DV assaulter can carry a concealed firearm. I love Alaska.

But Jack is right, in America it is your right as a citizen to have a gun
and some RLSHs choose to exercise that right while on patrol

I might not agree with it but I won't fight over it
as long as they can legally carry in their state/city/county then it's up to them

Additionally, it should be pointed out that RLSH who carry guns are not using the guns while on patrol. They have them in case they are needed to protect themselves and others in the most dire of situations, but not to pull out willy-nilly and point at people.

In Canada, there's a different cultural attitude. To American's the gun can symbolize their personal rights and freedoms. In Canada, most would regard it as just a tool, a means to an end.

With that in mind, I do not carry a gun.

Don't get me wrong. I would like to learn how to use one.

But even going in as an RLSH, I don't see the need for one myself. It's overkill for me. But I can see where it might come in handy.

Would I when I go on patrol, if I had the means and training? Most likely not. In Canada you can't just carry a handgun around for personal protection. Besides, I DON'T have the training. Also, I have found no need for one just yet.

And I hope it never comes to that, or god help the world.

I know I put myself at risk for not adequately protecting myself, but that's a chance I have to take for principles. I do not want to risk killing anyone, or causing harm to myself, through irresponsible use of a gun, even at the risk of my own life by someone else's action or weapon.

I don't begrudge RLSH's that do pack heat. The ones that do seem to be quite responsible and well trained, and have a mindset conductive to responsible gun use.

In Sweden we consider it a weapon, so anyone carrying one while walking down the sidewalk can safely be assumed to be up to no good. Not counting police officers, of course. Because of this we don't have that many guns in circulation, so I think going your whole life without seeing one outside of a military facility (again, except on the people in blue) is pretty standard.

Sounds similar to Canada, though there are plenty of hunters and farmers with 30-06's and shotguns.

For a country that loves guns so much, we can be pretty stupid about them, or how we view them. I'm not speaking about RLSH only, but American society as a whole. Guns have been glamorized beyond all belief in some popular media.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti-gun type, I just wish everyone was more sensible about them. Compulsory training does sound a bit extreme but it would go a long way to save lives.

DRock; Yeah, I think we still have as many guns per capita as Canada actually, and like you, it's mostly for hunting. People don't 'get a gun' like they seem to do in the US.



Now, even if I were allowed to carry a gun, I seriously doubt that I ever would. Ranged weapon, easy to use in a stressful situation and that does very serious damage. I can see a few ways in which that could go horribly, horribly wrong. Too much power, too hard to control.

Oh if only criminals felt this way about guns... you know. Not carrying them because its wrong/illegal or whatever. That's why they are criminals, because they have no regard fpr laws. And a criminal will get a gun if they are determined enough. That's why super strict gun laws only hurt law abiding citizens.

And can screw people over that made that one wrong choice, in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am of course speaking from personal experience. I am a 2nd amendment loving, greasy cheeseburger devouring reed blooded american and I love guns. They make great can openers, and light switches. But in all seriousness folks (maybe I SHOULD go into stand up Mega Rad). It is possible for felons to reacquire their 2nd amendment rights with this form offered through the bereau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms. Just fill out the form, have three letters of recommendation saying you're not a danger to society and your rights can be reinstated. Ironically enough I heard about this through an anti gun website.

However, as a superhero, able to carry a gun or not, I honestly probably wouldn't. Seeing as how the only ones who carry guns are the ones who are intent on killing the criminals they seek out.

Then again, if I was ever in the situation where someone pulled a gun on me, it'd be nice to be able to pull one back.

If you live in the states....

And you live in a State that has concealed weapons permits...

And you meet the reqirements....

you can carry one.

Oh & just FYI for all I never even considered carrying one for criminals. When I started packing a gun is when a so-called RLSH decided I was actaully a Govt. agent or something & decided I was a threat to the community. It had nothing to do with crime what-so-ever. It was a guy I had been freindly with for some time who suddenly just out of the blue turnned on me. Criminals don't worry me, Other people like us do.

That's why I carry a gun.

While I won't try and stop someone from carrying a gun on patrol (as long as they do it legally. Illegally and we gotta talk...) I don't like the idea of carrying one. There are too many things that could go wrong just by adding a gun to the mix of things.

In Washington state it is very easy to get a permit to carry a concealed pistol. At least it was ten years ago when I got one. I had it from age 21 to 26, but I did not renew it. When I had the permit, I used to carry a small 22. This was long before I had even heard of Real Life Superheroes, though. I don't know if I would ever get another permit.

I think people got the wrong idea when I hacked up my guns. I'm not actually anti-gun. That act was just a catalyst for me to find a better way to do things, and I'm not alone in the household and didn't want them around anymore. Yeah, I could have sold them, but they really weren't worth that much. When I get the shop finished I'm going to frame the wreckage and put some kind of motto on it.

I know a local RLSH that packs a .45, and this doesn't really bother me. We all work in different ways and you have the right to make that choice (at least in this state).

The only issue I have is if your gun is your ONLY choice. You really need to have something else available as well. Death should NOT be the only resort.

It just seems pointless. Carrying a gun openly is too provocative to help me much in worse areas than where I live but plan to operate, I think.

I'm comfortable with guns and think you need to be before you consider carrying one around. A negligent discharge could potentially send you to jail for a LONG time. And poor handgun retention could get you shot dead.

I don't *fear* us, but I do agree that we're the biggest potential threat to ourselves. No one else really cares enough to hate us as deeply as one of us could.

If it's legal, and you're trained, it shouldn't be a big deal.
Most people I've met, who are serious enough to pack a heater, are very responsible when it comes to handling it, and knowing when not to handle it.
Packing a firearm is serious, and you don't just pull it out to show off to everyone or shoot open coke bottles. Clowns like that usually don't take time to get a proper license, and they lose it quickly because of they own stupidity.

The Golden Rule: don't pull it unless you honestly intend to use it.

That's scary, In FL you need a course or present a DD214, I did the later.
