I was wondering if anyone has ever made their own latex masks? I know they sell them at http://www.xtremedesignfx.com/eyefacewear.htm but I'm more of a DIY kind of person, so I was just wondering.

And if anybody has, what brand of liquid latex do you use?

I found this tutorial too for reference : http://www.youtube.com/waFBg

Wow. Nice, but laytex is a unholy bitch to work with. I had a guy try to make a mask for a TV pilot years ago, this guy was a experienced prop guy too, the whole thing fell apart.

I'd say follow instructions & good luck.

FYI being a Godzilla fan I do know a lot about laytex suits. They tend to dry out over time & crumble. That's why there aren't any old Godzilla suits (Shodai-Gogi, Kin-Gogi etc.) in museums in Japan. just replicas.

Okay, thanks for the input. I'll try it out and let people know how it works out.

I wouldn't use a latex mask for anything other than filming, shaking hands with people on a stage, etc. But they can look really awesome. If you want to pick up the craft know how, that's cool. If you just want a mask, it's probably worth it to have someone else do it.
