PostSubject: A question about masks   Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:03 pm

I have a really annoying skin condition that, until a few months ago, I was able to treat with Elidel; the reason I had to stop using Elidel was because my doctor said there might be carcinogens in it.

This skin condition that I have basically looks like blotchy red spots on my face and scalp, and I'm constantly scratching dry skin off of said red spots. The ones on my scalp are the worst; one dermatologist I went to said they resembled either sores or burn marks. That being said, what type of mask should I consider wearing once I finally have the resources/training to become an RLSH? I'm especially worried that some materials (latex, vinyl, spirit gum) might agitate the rash (or whatever the hell it is).

DC guardian has an awesome looking mask that doesn't look like it uses anything that would irritate your skin. I'm just guessing here, but it looks like spandex or some other stretchy cloth over sunglasses. The effect just screams superhero though. Of course, I don't think he designed his mask to protect his face, just his identity. What kind of mask you go with would depend ultimately on function. If you want to be able to take a punch to the face and not be blinded, maybe something sturdier would be better. Bandannas, headscarfs, and balaclavas are other options for lightweight masks. Keep in mind, how much of your face you show also says a lot about you.

Yeah a spandex mask would probably be okay
but you should ask your doctor
just tell him you're going to a party or something
and ask if he thinks it will irritate you

You could always wear a ski mask under it to protect you from the inside of the other mask, but that would be really bulky and hot I would imagine.
