| I've had this olive drab military-style utility belt for some time now; I picked it up years ago because I thought it might be cool for costume purposes, but never actually used it. I believe it's a cartridge belt, because the pockets are fairly narrow. I was considering using it on patrols, so I started fooling with it recently, checking it for size + practicality.
The thing is, it doesn't have Batman-style "flip-top" pouches; these snap open and flip up as expected, but the back of the flaps can unfold out and away at a diagonal angle. It does read "U.S." on one pocket, and "Genelly" on the inside of the belt itself (the user's name, maybe?).
It's hard to describe without pictures, but I can't find any of this particular style online! If anyone has any experience with this kind of belt or knows what I'm talking about, I'm really just looking for opinions on how practical it is. It seems like the pockets can easily unfold if one isn't careful, leading to a lot of fumbling to close them back up again.

| Yep...Looks like an Ammo belt. They are good except the pouches are kinda narrow and are basically used to carry ammo and not much else. If you get bigger pouches then your good to go. The pouch issue always has been a thorn in my side, can't find good ones these days except maybe in an Army/Navy Surplus store.

Actually, that's very similar in overall look and design (same color + shape, clasping mechanism, 5 pockets each side), but it's the pocket flap design that's different. The ones in that pic look like they'd work better than what I have, actually... but not for 75 bucks! My pockets just have a strange folding thing going on.
I agree with SH, I'll use it if it fits the rest of my look (I may dye it black), but if these weird pockets prove to be impractical I'll probably have to ditch it.

Still working on it, but the base colors were going to be black with red accents -- which is somewhat ironic, since I'd already chosen these before I realized that most of the Pacific Protectorate (who are local to me) are wearing the same colors:

...which I'm not sure was intentional or not. Either way, it makes for a cool "team" look a la X-Men, etc.
