| I've caved. Going for a black business suit. Already got a black derby.
If you're gonna have black, better have a striking colour to go with it. I plan on getting a green or red shirt to go with the suit, a matching silk kerchief in the breast pocket (or a carnation), and accessorize with other coloured accents, like a logo and a minicape.
I just had to cave. My budget now just didn't allow for a totally new suit. Maybe in the future. |

| Mr. Jack pulls off the black suit and high contrast thing quite well. I find any bright coolor against black makes for a good visual appeal without fading into the background. |

| My Uniform is entirely black except for a "military green" jacket. I hope to be adding some form of charcoal/grey/silver coloring and drop the green altogether. I guess my reasoning is that the equipment I carry is all police issue as well as the clothing/boots, so I feel that it represents authority more directly to anyone I may encounter. I DO NOT IMPERSONATE A POLICE OFFICER. however my uniform is similar to that of a security officer or swat member, and I feel that it helps deter violence when I'm out patroling around bars. I typically don't wear my green coat anymore, and usually only wear a black hat or ski cap, and when I pass the bars most people just nod. It will come in handy when the boozers get ruff and I'm trying to seperate them. shine a flashlight, start screaming, and most ppl don't want to take the chance they're going to get arrested. Sorry, I've ranted long enough. |

| Projecting a militant/cop-ish appearance is a mixed bag. I experiment with it a little. I'm not sure it's better or worse, but it's definitely "different."
I don't impersonate a cop, either, but I do have two small click lights hooked together that I could throw, which strobe red and blue. They're in a pouch (not mounted on a vehicle -- IAW CA state law).
And there's always the personal loud speaker. Speaking through a loud speaker projects authority without claiming to be a cop.
And you could get "DARE" stenciled on your back in bright yellow block letters...
Seriously. |

| Hold on... that's a brilliant idea. If you had a red and blue LED light, each with an ON switch that stays on without you having to continue to hold it down... you could put them on a key ring, turn them on and just twirl the thing on your finger. At night time and from a distance, most criminals would just book it as soon as they saw it. Hmm... I once owned a megaphone that had that "Beeaaoo!" sound effect cops use when they pull you over. That sound strikes fear into the hearts of men, let me tell you. If you used those together, you'd never even have to fight anyone. So long as you could spot the crime from a distance, you're set... So obviously you'd just need binoculars of some kind. Long-range crime prevention... Mega-Rad where did you get that light idea?? It's genius. |

| I just had two snap lights and clipped them together. I guess I've become a flashlight junkie lately. My intent was more to throw them as a diversionary tactic in conjunction with barking commands on my voice amplifier... i.e. "STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND LAY FACE DOWN ON THE GROUND. DO IT NOW." (Notice no use of the word "cop"...) As for the on switch, you just squeeze them to turn them on and off. They're like elipsoid shaped... Oh... yeah... if I could ever get a flying toy to work reliably, I'd thought of mounting lights and sirens on that, too. It's not a car. |

Actually, the Stencil thing is an awesome idea. right now the only insignia/way of showing my name is a White D on my belt, but the letters on the back would be awesome, and it would look like DEA or SWAT or something. and again for anyone that didn't see the earlier post I DO NOT IMPERSONATE AN OFFICER OF THE LAW. |

| Yes, neither do bounty hunters. They use terminology like "Bail Enforcement," but clearly they project a certain image that helps them accomplish their objective within the limits of the law. Gotcha, man. |

Yes he does which is why I posted him the Humane Society version of "Jack" here, who likes to sit on my lap, which he enjoyed:

| Hey Dare... somewhere recently I actually saw some cops with "DARE" in block letters on the back of their jackets. Can't remember what it was they were doing... probably something to do with the anti-drug program. |

| Most likely There is a D.A.R.E. program in the Middle and High school here in town run by the RCMP I that there are other police forces in Canada and the U.S.A. that use the same D.A.R.E. Program as well |

| The (jokingly named) "cop impersonator" prototype is ridiculously simple. It's just two keychains snapped together. However, I shot some video of it at night sitting on the dashboard of my car (for novelty purposes only)... even without sound it'd probably fool most people. Not in the daytime, though.
You're thinking like two bright strobing LED lights and a siren? That's into dubious legal territory (maybe), but at least here in CA if you didn't actually mount it on a vehicle you'd be good (legally -- the cops might not think it was very funny, though). Something along those lines will end up in the armor.
For something fancier, you could just buy a real police light and siren or "party light" for about $20-$25.
http://www.amazon.com/Police-Light-Electric-Horn-Siren/dp/B001K3A8Q2/ref=pd_sim_sg_4 (would need brighter lights, tho) http://www.amazon.com/Wolo-Emergency-Magnetic-Teardrop-Rotating/dp/B000BNOI8G/ref=pd_sbs_sg_4 http://www.amazon.com/Wolo-3210-R-Emergency-Magnetic-Teardrop/dp/B000BNOI90/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_b etc
My concept for the keychain deal is just at night and at a distance it might make someone stop doing something and run away, especially along with telling them to stop >whatever< over a loud speaker. Haven't had any reason to use it yet. |
