| I've been spending more and more time talking to an awesome cat lady I met early this year. She's a one-woman network for getting cats (feral and domestic) fixed and vaccinated at extremely reasonable prices in the greater Los Angeles area. Last night she told me about a network of people in LA who advertise on Craigslist and other places about adopting people's unwanted cats for free. These people have the people donating cats to sign a waiver, take the cats from them, tells them they'll be taken to a no-kill shelter, and then use various animal shelter facilities across the city to kill the cats they've gathered. First of all I don't like the idea of killing animals we share a symbiotic relationship with. Secondly; I believe people shouldn't take actions that could drastically change local eco-systems. And thirdly, I just don't like the idea of a group of people killing a lower life-form who can do nothing to protect themselves. This network does this because they believe it will thin out the feral cat population, yet studies show that any feral cat killed is easily replaced by another feral cat. Apparently, trapping feral cats and getting them fixed before re-releasing them has more beneficial results as it keeps the feral cat population stable and still keeps local vermin away.
From what I've been told this network will show up in the parking lot of a random business during the evening hours and collect cats there. I've been thinking about showing up during one of these so-called "adoption drives" and informing people about the networks true intentions. Maybe even getting the local media involved, although I'm a bit hesitant about that idea.
What do you guys think? Do you have any advice on how to handle this situation? |

| a good friend of mine has been trapping them and getting them fixed .a lot of out his own pocket money but they keep on coming and they keep on feeding them.they have so much food they don't even hunt the rats.most of these cats are real mean and would never make a good pet.these cats are vicious like possums and carrying disease.i think they should be treated like any other threat to society. |

| Collect a few yourself, and get them chipped or at least marked so they can be tracked. Return them to the area. When the perps take the cats to the kill shelters, you have your evidence right there. |

| I agree with Victim but see if you can get the police involved because if they are telling the public one thing then going around doing something else then there is something that smells really fishy and its not coming from the cats fur Find out what they do with the bodies of all the cats that they killed too |

| have you ever heard the urban legends about reasearch labs sending out flunkies to collect animals at night so the labs can do experiments on the animals without having to register the animals with proper authorities? Thats what I thought of when I read your story.
My wife works for the Humane Society in the cats department. They have animals there that have been in shelter for years. Humane society is a no-kill shelter. The first thing they do is spay/neuter the animals and make sure they have all shots before they are put up for adoption. They will even go to "kill" shelters and get animals there before their time runs out.
If these people are really stealing animals from the wild you should contact the local humane society and inform them as to what is going on. You may be able to get more accomplished with some help from an established organisation. |

| Sick 4-Chan on them. They may be @$$holes, but there's two things of their you don't mess with, lest you want you life to be a living hell.
You don't mess with their porn.
You don't mess with their cats.
*LOL* JK
But to be serious, gather evidence first. Launching accusations without positive proof will get you in trouble. |

| Isn't it illegal to misrepresent themselves as no'kill and have a waiver signed?
Can you get some video of them doing the waver, trail them to the facilities, maybe get a witness or two who have seen what's going on.
Lots of work, but if it's illegal, maybe you can get the animal cops involved, and maybe sick PETA on them wit the evidence. Let the nutjobs of PETA do your work for you. |

I doubt if they're killing cats for what seems like the hell of it that they'd care much about the legality of their actions. |

Not my point. I don't care what the cat killers are thinking. The illegality angle is a reason for authorities to look into it, and they will want a real, possibly prosecutable reason to check it out.

| Yeah, are you sure it's for "The Hell of it" ? like Indigo said? I saw this thing one time where these PETA wackos broke into a lab & there were all these live cats with their heads Fileted open with electros hooked up to them. Maybe they sell'em for research? There would have to be money being passed for them to take a risk like this |

If you're implying that they are illegal research animals, such as Artisteroi mentioned, instead of killed, this would be even better because that is solidly illegal.
It's going to take a good amount of detective work on Hissyfit's part, but it could pay off big. |

| get a copy of the waiver and read it closely, have someone else you trust read it closely. THEN follow them to wherever they are taking the cats. Take pictures, take video. Once they've left the place go in and ask some questions, record those.
As Midnight Detective said, the authorities will want something they can use as an excuse to investigate these people. |

Great idea, Artisteroi. I'm pretty close to one of the local Humane Society shelters so I'll probably do some info gathering soon. I'm going to wait until I have something solid before them or anybody else gets involved.
Thanks for the input, guys. Looks like I've got a lot of work to do observing and collecting evidence. |

| I'm hyperventlilating as I read this but you guys have typed every thing that I would and I am THANKFUL for YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who hurts smaller being will hurt anything that they can without getting caught.
Over population of human is just as bad.
Shall they do it to humans too?
What about dogs, hamsters, cockroaches?
A focus on cats means that something is REALLY wrong in their brains.
May the souls of all the cats they have wronged haunt them and take away ALL of their sleep |
