| I wouldn't recommend using a weapon unless you have plenty of training to go with it. Otherwise it's just going to cause more problems for you than it will for your attacker. |

| also, hurting bad guys should not be your motivation.you hurt someone with a weapon, you go to jail. you will rarely even run into "badguys".
i feel you really need to read the information on this forum and on the main site and realize what exactly the reality of being an RLSH is. |

| I wouldn't recommend carrying around something with the only obvious use being as a weapon unless your 100% sure it's legal, too. And if fighting staves are legal in your area then it might be worth it to buy a real one. |

| That's why I like my cane, it looks innocuous, but I've trained with it plenty Then again, there are rare days I actually NEED it as a cane, lol. |

| no I don't Pitch, they're illegal most anywhere. It just a cane a friend built for me when I was having some knee problems. A piece of small diameter, thick gauge, steel pipe with a cast steel ball head welded to the top. Painted basic black, and a rubber cane foot on the bottom. Its heavy, but no-one asks any questions, and as I said above some days I actually need it, lol. |

| It sounds like the same type of cane another hero has. Silent something is his name. I think he retired from the hero business though. But cool cool. |

| Hey Orillion.
I suggest you check out the post on Canadian Weapons that Drock started a few months ago. There are real limitations regarding the weapons that Canadians are permitted to carry legally under most circumstances.
And if you have enemies, then I suggest you call the police and have them arrested. Not only are they paid to do that job, they are armed with pepper spray, truncheons, guns, tasers, etc. And they can legally use them to stop criminals.
We cannot. This isn't the movies or the comic books. And we are not vigilantes.

| If you want to use a baton, then check into the legalities of it first.
If it is legal for you to use, then see if you can find someplace to learn the LAMB technique. Its used in prisons around the USA and teaches how to use a baton as a non lethal but incredible effective weapon. My baton training from Department of Corrections was good enough that I was able to hold my own in the combat arena with most of the swordfighters in my renaissance group. |

| I'm going with Crossfire on this one. I've been trained in batons from working security in the past and when taught correctly it can be an incredible non lethal weapon. Always make sure that you check legalities first and always, always, make sure you know how to use a weapon before taking it out in the field. If you don't, you have a good chance of it being taken away and used on you. |

| But since he's in Canada, a baton probably isn't legal.
If he needs something for self-defense, my alternative of choice is a flashlight. If you select one that has a solid metal body, not plastic, then it's true purpose is illumination but it can survive an encounter and help you survive it too. If someone happens to get the business end in the face/gut, then that's self-defence because a flashlight isn't intended as a weapon. Also, the flashlight is good as a deterrent (flashing light so people can't see easily) and as a signal device.
Otherwise, I still stand by what I said previously. If we are doing our job right, we shouldn't be getting into fights. That said, could the LAMB technique be used with a flashlight?
