What Than said.

You have a weighted cape? Then it has to be very firmly attached to you, or it will fall off. It will deform any costume made of light fabric. Also, if it is firmly attached, someone can grab it, pull you around by it, pull it over your face, or wrap it around your neck. I would have LOVED to have every bad guy I've ever brawled with professionally or as a civilian wear a cape. Love.

Also, when you run, it will create drag and slow you down lots.

I say this because I often wear cloaks (it's a medieval re-enactment thing with me), and not once have I been happy I was wearing a cloak when I've had to do anything productive or get somewhere in a hurry.

Seriously, dude, leave the cape for the dress uniform.

you find them off the mainstream martial arts circuts. their usally on their own and dont freequent forums like this or others either. there are a few. not a lot and not easy to find but they are out there.
and yes, most of the people who 'develop their own style' really are not qualified to do so. the people I am talking about have years of experience in martial arts both studying and often teaching.
some do make it into the public notice. peole like Bruce Lee, Ed Parker and others.

and as to the 'combat cape'- unless your a matador stay away from capes. they work only in the movies.

I agree entirely, Thanatos. Not all ancient martial arts are best. In fact, many of the "new" systems in the past century have really bumped up the effectiveness, with increased knowledge of anatomy and related fields, and adapting to a world with different weapons and scenarios.

But those systems are crafted from masters of others, usually several others.

Never by teenagers who watched too much Dragonball Z as a kid.

I just get tired of getting BSed, personally. I personally can't believe that you tried "combat cape" for a week with some friends and after doing that it continued to seem like a great idea.

well we all have different out looks on capes and some of the most dumbest ideas ended out good one way or another no I'll say this much even there isn't a style to accomponied to capes and cloaks we have a different outlook on them because we grew up with different superheroes no I came up with spider-man and batman and I came to like capes and hoods and cloaks and coals but I tool this idea into literal perspective and I know the down side to this I'll etiher get my ass kick or die right? I am levelheaded and willing to create and invent new things this isn't my first crazy idea you should have seen the shadowrang ( batarang)

I'm not sure what amused me more. The incredible failure of the English language in that post, or the fact you think we need you to explain where your name with a suffix of -rang derives from.

Who are you fighting? What's their training? How can you be sure they accurately represent the skill, motivation to hurt you, and general qualities about criminals you could encounter with cape-fu.

Not getting killed by your buddies with absolutely no training and no weapons, who don't want to seriously injure you is hardly a way to validate your ultimate fighting style.

well before this forum I was gonna go out and try my idea but truthfully this did made me see that everything in comics can't be preformed in real life so since you are all against the idea I am gonna trash it and go with my original idea I am gonna use a forget what it's called I think it's like a trench coat so yea that's it cape is gone I might give it to some actor guys on whatever

Diito UA, definitely ditto. I tested one out and liked the demo but after a few friends told me about the headaches regarding it, i said no way. I think i made the right choice.

Used to rock an HTC (wait for it...) Hero, myself. Now doing the blackberry thing. The integration is fabulous. Fabulous. FB, google calendar, emails, bbm, everything.. all streaming to one message window.... it's phenomenal.

*coughcough* Anyways, I digress.

if you really want to try your cape idea, dude, test yourself against local RLSHs, for example. Or find your locl SCA chapter and ask a rapier fighter to attack you with a dagger while you try the cape of doom thing...

Hell if you were anywhere near me, I'd say let's give 'er.

You always want to test anything on which your life depends, to the breaking point, before taking it into the field. That way, you know its true limits. This goes for equipment AND training.

Just do me a favour: don't test your armour while you're wearing it.

if your doing a coat make sure it is large enough to drop quickly if you think there may be 'action'. if it fits properly then it may be hard to get off quickly enough when you need to. go a couple of sizes large for that extra space for ease of removal.

mine is mostly for show and carrying things but if something happens I slip it off as it is large enough to not bind while dropping.
