Some of us already have armour and weapons, but at some point want to step up our crimefighting and philanthropic efforts.

Why not look at the recent bench warrants that have bounties placed on them for VOPs, sexual offences and the like? It would be less of a strain on law enforcement so they wouldn't have to waste time and resources to bring these guys in, and in most places, there is a metro crimestoppers or the like that pay for arrests and convictions of these offenders.

I've been looking at the FDLE warrants site lately and have been getting some funny ideas that may work. I'll tell you what though, there are some ugly, worn out looking f**Kers on the Orange and Osceola county websites. Child sexual battery and drug dealing trash make the top of my list regardless of wether or not I would get paid.

As one of our (fictional) arch nemesis' had once said, "if you're good at something, never do it for free..." So why not take that twisted man's view on murder and use it to do good? Gonna rope them in anyways, so why not get paid?

Too greedy? I say effective support in crimefighting. Think of all the armour and tazers that kind of money can buy... Or an Eon suit...

Why not? Police and bailbondsmen do it all the time. Just get the license makes one more legitimate in the eyes of the public.

Barring that, you could hoist one of the vermin over your shoulder like a slab of beef and dump him/her on the nearest police seargents desk and say here ya go...

Interesting. I wonder why I didn't think of something like this myself. I think this idea has merit, and the idea of added legitimacy in the public's eyes AND in the eyes of local law enforcement could work to our advantage.

If you are a licensed bail bondsman, your identity will be public record, and anyone will be able to find it. The city will not pay a masked man in cash. Not all states allow bounty hunters to operate, so check local laws. There may also be restrictions on who can be a bounty hunter, and training requirements.

Oh, but there's nothing wrong with funding your crimefighting efforts in thus way if you are able. IMHO.

It's a good idea. I recommend broadening your thoughts about this to include monetizing other aspects of what you want to do -- including activities, training, and just the basic stuff you need to survive.

Pursuing rewards for information may also be safer than trying to serve warrants, though possibly a bit harder.

And yes, the idea that you have a secret identity will pretty much have to be abandoned in order to be a "Hero for Hire."

If you have security experience you might get your PI license instead.

Huh, now that I think of it one of those moments in life that has led to this path. Weird.

I actually spoke to a bondsman about this. Years ago it was easy and anyone could do it. Now you have to have a license, there's lots of paperwork, and more importantly, lots of competition. That's the hard part.

The guy basically told me it wasn't worth the trouble anymore, to get into it, I mean.

Plus in many states you have to take classes (which cost $$) and retake them periodically to be certified. I considered this too, getting a degree in Criminal Justice, taking bondsman classes and having a second job as a bounty hunter. But so far it doesn't look like it would turn a profit fast enough.

I wouldn't talk anyone out of it. I think its a cool idea, just remember its a lot of hard work. It involves a lot of driving, investigating, interviewing. And sometimes there's some fighting and shooting involved (I don't wanna go back!). Its extremely dangerous, but if its something you want to do. Go for it. My only advise is to go speak to an established bondsman in your area first ,ask him a lot of questions.

Or work for a bail bond compant for a bit. Get experience before jumping in head first.

At least in CA you still have to be bonded to do that.

Personally basic security work seems easier to qualify for in CA.

If you partnered with someone who was legitimately bonded and provided him information that might be an easier/safer approach. I can't imagine someone like that turning down significant leads.

Yeah, Ecliptico does it. Been doing it for awhile. I think its a great idea if you have the resources to do it. I am not sure what it would require here, but I may look it up.

IA isn't terribly expensive to get.

Razorhawk: MN has no licensing on bail enforcement.
Note this is different from bonding. The enforcer can work for the bondsman to get the jumper.

varied side jobs of interest with at least a part time steady job as a backup seem to be the way to go these days.

What about going after suspects with arrest warrants to their names? Is there a website of sorts where warrants can be viewed?
