The Library and KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio are co-hosting a three-part film and discussion series, "The Price of a Life: Modern-Day Slavery and Human Trafficking," which highlights local and international efforts to end trafficking and slavery.
Films and discussions take place every two weeks on Sundays at the Central Library.
"Legislating to Liberate"
2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28
Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium
This film and discussion will focus on Washington state's status at the forefront of national legislation regulating against human trafficking and slavery. Speakers include Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles, D-Seattle and former Washington State legislator Velma Veloria.
"The Cost of Capture"
2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, March 14
Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium
Hear firsthand accounts of how victims of forced bondage obtained their freedom. Speakers include Emma Catague, founder of the Asian Pacific Islander Safety Center and community organizer against human trafficking amongst the Asian and Pacific Island populations, along with Seattle photographer Tim Matsui.
"Stopping the Traffic"
2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, March 28
Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium
Discover how local organizations are addressing the illegal trade in human beings. Featured speakers include KUOW reporter/announcer Sara Lerner, Seattle police detective Harvey Sloan, Seattle criminal law attorney Ye-ting Woo and Kathleen Morris, anti-trafficking program manager for the International Rescue Committee in Seattle.
All programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Doors will open 15 minutes before each program.
